The Ambassadors is not your typical band that started in college. For one, they are still together. Why? They are family!
The indie rock band got its start in Brooklyn in 2006 when Sam Harris, Adam Levin, and Noah Feldshuh were attending the New School in Manhattan, and Sam’s brother Casey Harris was working as a piano tuner. In 2010, it seemed like the stars had aligned as all four members were finally able to commit to the band full time. But just months before recording their debut album, they were hit with one tragedy after another.
Against all odds, the band survived and their struggles fueled the Ambassador’s first album, Litost, which came out in January 2012. The album solidified the band’s unique sound, which blends blues, soul, dark electronica, gospel and rock. While many of the tracks are light and could even be described as catchy, the album displays a range of emotions from despair and darkness to hope and life.
The band has been touring throughout the country, and most recently, they opened for Best New Artist Grammy nominee The Lumineers. Audiences throughout the country have been discovering that the Ambassador’s distinct sound is not just meant to be heard – it is meant to be felt.
Check out their video for “Unconsolable”. It stars Zosia Mamet from the HBO show Girls.
