“ Cohen’s ‘Overgrown Path’ croons with a subtle darkness, its seemingly carefree melodies venturing towards sadness and disillusionment.”Consequence of Sound >>

“…glows with easy comfort, and its wistfulness deepens with repeated listens”- Pitchfork

-Cohen is a former member of The Curtains, Deerhoof, Cass McCombs and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti

Multi-instrumentalist Chris Cohen first entered the indie rock scene when he formed the Curtains in 2000 with band-mates Jamie Peterson and Trevor Shimizu. They released their first album, Fast Talks, in 2001. But in 2002, Cohen left the Curtains for the celebrated band Deerhoof, lending his skills as a guitarist. Cohen bounced between the Curtains, Deerhoof, and several other acts—Cass McCombs, Danielson, Haunted Graffiti, and White Magic—until 2007 when he decided to pursue Calamity, a solo album project. He lent his talents to a few other bands until 2012, when he decided to complete and release his first solo album, Overgrown Path. As a kid, Cohen taught himself to play guitar, bass, keyboards, and percussion and he learned how to overdub himself to make it appear as if a full band was playing with him. Perhaps his SoCal childhood—Cohen’s a Los Angeles native—helped inspire and influence his crooning, sometimes beachy, laid back tone of his music.
