With indie-rock heart, soaring harmonies and plenty of pop sensibility, Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes are definitely one of the hottest unsigned bands around. The Nashville, TN-based group has been creating quite a stir as of late, from a song featured on TV’s Grey’s Anatomy to rave reviews after rocking faces at the CMJ Music Festival last October. Their first full-length record, Civilized Man, was released in May 2011 and made all 3 of Amazon.com’s year-end best-of lists: the single “Shoe Fits” took the #7 spot on the Best Songs of 2011 list, while the album itself came in at #76 and #66 on the Best Albums of 2011 and Outstanding 2011 Albums You Might Have Missed lists, respectively. By February 2012, Civilized Man was ranked the #1 Bestseller on Amazon MP3.

Though now based in Nashville, the band members hail from all across the US, which brings an eclectic mix of influence to Ellsworth’s solid singing/songwriting. Their Facebook page cites Wilco, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, and “all that is good” as influential.
