Formed in September 2010, Hunters are a high-energy, lo-fi noise rock band from Brooklyn, NY. Founded by singers/guitarists Derek Watson and Isabel Almeida, the group has quickly risen from the depths of Brooklyn’s underground scene. Their raw, gritty sound caught the attention of Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeah’s) and James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle), who mixed and produced their debut EP, Hands On Fire, respectively.
While low-end duties are passed around to various musicians/friends on an as-needed basis, it is Watson and Almeida’s relationship that drives the group’s visceral sound and frenetic stage presence. The duo’s dynamism is evidenced by their call-and-response vocal style, and live shows often end with the pair writhing on the floor in a tangled mess of wires, limbs and feedback. Watson and Almeida’s mutual love for bands like The Melvins, The Stooges, Sonic Youth and The Cramps helped mold their stripped-down, in-your-face style.
Hunters have toured with the likes of A Place to Bury Strangers and The Kills, and are currently working on their first full-length album. Be sure to catch them live at the Stopover!
