Bison has already crafted a sound that is thread- ed with their own singular strands of creativity.”-Noise Trade

The Last Bison is a relatively new band from the mountains of Virginia, but despite a grassroots approach to music, their single “Switzerland” has garnered national attention. The band is an extraordinarily tight-knit unit because most of the band members are family and can recall sitting around bonfires together, singing songs that eventually lead to their first full-length album, Quill, which was released earlier this year. They have been compared to indie heavy hitters such as Mumford and Sons, The Avett Brothers and Fleet Foxes, but the authenticity and sincerity The Last Bison brings to the table is truly unique. The Last Bison captures the vivacity of genuine folk rock in a way that not many other bands can claim to. Their eclecticism is charming and endearing, coupled the unique approach lead singer Ben Hardesty has to songwriting promises music rich with imagery and evocative storytelling. Self professed “Mountain-top chamber”, songs like “Switzerland” and “River Rhine” evoke a rugged, wayfaring sentiment that is poignantly combined with the sensibilities of modern American indie. The Last Bison isn’t saturated by the sticky sweetness of the bubblegum folk that pervades the radio waves, and instead possesses a more real, down-to-earth sound.
