““[The album]’Sons of Stone’ is flower-power music recast for a sicker age.”-L.A. Times
“Sneaky melodies rendered at insistent tempos seem to pour out of these guys, and their passion is palpable; what they’ve tapped into here feels almost primal.“-Pitchfork
“7.8/10 album rating for ‘Sons of Stone’”- Pitchfork
Based out of Lansing, Michigan and named after the 1960’s suicidal cult, The People’s Temple cranks out a gritty garage grind that rock n’ roll fans won’t want to miss. The young four-member band (two sets of brothers, no less) crank out bold riffs, urgent melodies, and dark, echoing vocals. Pitchfork describes their sound as a tribute to their Midwestern musical roots, beginning with frontman William Young, whose “got a voice as familiar as his band’s sound; he’s Arthur Lee one minute, Sky Saxon the next, with a little Iggy and Mick on the songs that call for it.” Behind him, the rest of the band pumps out songs that remind acquainted rock listeners with “the Who’s grander late-60s material,” coupled with “hints of Spacemen 3 drone and Brian Jonestown Massacre’s anything-goes whirl pop up.” After the success of their first album, Sons of Stone, in 2011, the band released their sophomore effort, More for the Masses, in late 2012. And for any fans ears, it’s certainly more—more face-rocking Michigan musicianship, that is.
