Macon Music Revue
Over the past year of its Wednesday night residency at historic Grant's Lounge, Macon Music Revue has evolved into a steamrolling quintet exploring the Central Georgia city's considerable musical inheritance. The band mines the catalogues of Little Richard, Otis Redding, and The Allman Brothers Band for both hits and lesser-known cuts. Digging deep into the artists and songs associated with Capricorn Records (the venerable local label that produced nine platinum and 17 gold albums between 1969 and 1979), the Revue also covers Marshall Tucker Band, Wet Willie, Sea Level, Swamp Dogg, Charlie Daniels Band and more. Atlanta Rhythm Section gets its due, given the late lead singer Ronnie Hammond was a native Maconite, and because Bill Berry and Mike Mills grew up in the city, the band gives R.E.M. an R&B reimagining.
The powerful gospel-and-soul-soaked vocals of Charles Davis, a homegrown singer, actor and radio personality, anchors the Macon Music Revue. Guitarist Dustin McCook, whose slide contributions to Eddie 9V's album, Capricorn, were noted earlier this year by Guitar Player, nods to the originals but possesses his own fiery signature style and sound. Ethan Hamlin, the 23-year-old organist and keyboardist, is a worthy heir to his Macon predecessors, Gregg Allman and Chuck Leavell. Caleb Melvin, who plays multiple instruments in multiple Macon bands, keeps the beat in this one, while 17-year-old bassist Evan Bentzel, a veteran of the city's Otis Music Camp, lays down a solid groove that would be at home on any stage or studio in Macon, Memphis or Muscle Shoals.
Shy Company
Shy Company is a group of musical innovators hailing from Macon, Georgia, formed in 2019. Shy Company breaks new ground into a genre they call “East Coast Dream Pop.” They believe that music is an experience all about the atmosphere it creates, and their atmosphere is a Dreamy punk-rock euphoria. Shy Company is a group of musical power-players consisting of the dual-vocals of Kat Bugatti and Kalez Collins, Wyatt Pyles on lead guitar, Caleb Melvin on lead synth and rhythm guitar, Brian Rowland on the bass, and Colby Collins on the drums. Their roots in Blues, Southern Rock, Alternative Rock, and Non-fictional Storytelling brings a musical chemistry to create an experience that you can’t get anywhere else.
